The Knot's completed 2025 wedding study reports 59% hiring a florist and $2,800 average flower spend. Its flower-cost article says 70% cited price as a top deciding factor when choosing a florist. The hiring figure and decision factor use different questions and populations. Study PDF, flower-cost explainer.

These facts are useful reference points, but a floral budget becomes actionable only when the design, quantities and labor are defined.

The overall wedding study includes 10,474 adult US couples married during 2025, recruited from The Knot/WeddingWire membership. The public read-out does not disclose exact florist-question sample sizes. Do not label the hiring percentage as the share of all US marriages with flowers.

A floral average is not a shopping list

The $2,800 category mean does not specify a number of bouquets, table arrangements, ceremony pieces or installations. It cannot tell you which flowers are available for your date or how much labor your venue needs.

A proposal built around personal flowers and simple table arrangements has a different scope from one involving overhead installations, large structures and multiple locations. The average does not supply a standardized package against which those proposals can be scored.

This is why our floral proposal worksheet begins with pieces, quantities, scale and priorities. It separates material choices from delivery, installation, relocation, strike and rentals.

Price matters without being the whole comparison

The 70% deciding-factor measure does not mean price was the only consideration or that those couples chose the cheapest proposal. It is a category-user finding, not a percentage of all respondents spending below a threshold.

For your shortlist, ask each florist to quote the same item list. A low total for fewer or smaller arrangements is not directly comparable with a larger plan. Reference photographs can help explain preferences, but they do not reveal quantities, dimensions or labor by themselves.

Ask the florist to identify what they can deliver within your budget and what changes if a desired flower is unavailable. Keep the substitution process visible. An agreed palette or design direction may offer flexibility; only the actual florist can confirm how they will implement it.

Reusing arrangements has a logistics cost

Moving a ceremony piece to a reception can reduce the number of separate pieces you request, but it creates a handoff. Someone needs access, time, labor and a suitable destination. A piece designed for one use may not suit another.

The worksheet names which pieces move, who moves them and when. It also records rented vessels and structures, return responsibilities, venue attachment rules and access requirements.

We do not attach a generic savings percentage to this approach. The complete quote determines whether it reduces costs and whether it fits the schedule. A florist may price additional moving or strike work separately.

Compare proposals without mixing category means

Use the vendor comparison worksheet to add required delivery, installation, rentals and fees. The wedding budget calculator can then incorporate the confirmed flat quote.

Avoid converting the national flower mean into an automatic percentage of your total budget. Weddings have different scopes, and the flower subgroup is not identical to every other spending subgroup. The cost statistics article explains why summing category means creates misleading totals.

If you remove an arrangement from the plan, ask what actually changes in the quote. Minimum orders or fixed installation costs can make the relationship between one fewer piece and the final total less simple than expected.

Sources, next steps and directory scope

All Wedding currently has directories for venues, photographers, planners, bakeries and an opening catering section. We do not imply that a dedicated florist directory already exists.

A local planner or venue may suggest suppliers, but ask whether suggestions involve required vendors or commercial relationships. Use our florist inquiry template to request a consistent itemized response.

Cite each figure with its publisher and 2025 observation year. Our graphic and CSV preserve the distinct populations and are original compilations of the cited facts.
